Prevention and preparedness

We have been there for some of our customers’ most challenging moments. When tragedy strikes, we’re there for our neighbors.

"Because “never” happens all the time. I’ll help you be ready. Until it happens, you just don’t realize the full power of it all."

Response and recovery

Delivering on our promise is a team effort, where each person plays their part to help customers recover from the unexpected. See how we showed up for our neighbors.

"In a time of catastrophe, State Farm agents and employees are the peace customers are looking for. zIt isn’t possible to put their lives back together overnight, but we can start the healing process. Nobody holds a candle to the value of State Farm."

Hurricane Andrew

On August 24, 1992, Hurricane Andrew careened into Florida with ferocious, swirling winds that swallowed everything in their path. By the time its drive across south Florida ended, 55 were dead, hundreds were injured, and thousands were homeless. In temporary offices throughout the devastated area, hundreds of employees spent 12 hours a day entering claim reports.

State Farm associates met in South Florida to assist policyholders, construct temporary offices, handle paperwork, settle claims, and help rebuild shattered lives. Special Disaster Forces came armed with State Farm Special Disaster shirts, hats, and jackets, plus Polaroid cameras and film, calculators, tape measures, estimating pads, sensible shoes, ladders, and lots of heart.
