Looking forward

Within the first 10 years of business, State Farm was operating in 29 states. Mecherle encouraged others to work hard and stay loyal to the spirit of State Farm. The commitment to being a good neighbor is what bound the company together and made it the largest auto insurer in America.

More than 100 years of service

It all started with a seed of an idea. Our founder G.J. Mercherle wanted change and disrupted the insurance industry in a major way.

Today, State Farm is the industry leader with a century of experience, financial strength and agents all across the U.S. That one seed grew into a Fortune 50 company with more than 19,000 agents helping communities, consumers and small businesses realize their dreams.

We've got some hurdles to clear in the future but that's hardly anything new. We've always had hurdles and we've always cleared them in the past and we'll clear them in the future. The mutual respect, the mutual trust, is the glue that holds us together, and it will continue to hold us together in the future.

Edward B. Rust, Sr., CEO — 1970-1985

Our Logos

What’s a brand without a logo? In the mid 1940’s, we began with one oval to represent our one product: auto insurance. As the company grew, so did the number of ovals. By 1953, we adopted our iconic three oval logo to represent our new coverage options and growing customer base.

"We can allow the future to shape us, or we can shape our future. I believe the best way to predict the future is to invent it - and that’s what we’re all about."

"State Farm is a reflection of all of us. Together through all of our actions we create the spirit of State Farm. It’s a spirit of caring. We care about our customers and are guided daily by our mission to help them. But we also care about each other. Relationships are at the heart of who we are and what we do."

Corporate Headquarters

In 2018, Bloomington based employees made the transition from the original home office building to a new corporate office.

As the company expanded, there was a need for more office space across the country. In 2012, State Farm introduced two hub locations in Dallas and Phoenix. A final hub located was built in Atlanta in 2020.

Jon Farney, CEO 2024-present
